When a leader acts with deep personal integrity and expresses what he values, he builds respect.

Leaders must have respect to be followed. Respect is not something you can ask for and certainly not demand. Respect springs from acts of integrity, which may not always be popular, and from knowing the values that motivate another’s behaviors. When I am open about my values and act with the deepest integrity, when I express my expertise without arrogance, when I express my love for what I do, I build respect, brick by brick.
