There are five building blocks for managing organizational change.
When a leader is committed to continually improving and managing change she will attend to these: a strong vision, improving skills, motivating incentives, sufficient resources and a sound plan. Improvement will happen when these five elements are in place and accessible. Without a strong vision that is understood, shared and accepted by all, there will be confusion and eventual chaos. Without proper training and required skills, there will be anxiety and a feeling of incompetence in the group. Without incentives that are welcomed by group members, improvement will be halting and gradual at best. Without sufficient resources — human and material — the organization’s people will experience frustration and anger at not being able to achieve goals. Without a strategy, alignment of goals and a plan of action, the team will experience false starts and a wasting of energy. Look for some of these symptoms in your group and discover what it needs.
